Boston Trip 2016 – Prelude

On Saturday i’m jetting off on a holiday to Boston, MA. I’ve been looking forward to it for ages and it’ll be the first time I’ve seen my Sisters family all together since they moved out there a few years ago.

Its also my first trip to the states so i’m sure i’ll end up being a typical annoying tourist.

Social Media Automation

Being both an IT and a photography geek I’ve been wanting to streamline my sharing of the photos I take with friends and family.

To this end I’ve been working on some IFTTT automation that’ll post a curated set of images from my iPhone to various social networks (Instagram, FB and Twitter) with no further input from me – its a set it and forget it system.

What I’ve setup is whenever I post an image to Instagram using a particular #Hashtag the same image gets pushed to both my Twitter account and my a Facebook album at the same time.

Here’s the recipes that i’m using to achieve this:

Instagram to Twitter

IFTTT Recipe: New Photo with # - Post to Twitter connects instagram to twitter

Instagram to Facebook

IFTTT Recipe: New Photo with # - Post to FB album connects instagram to facebook

I’ve done a few tests and everything seems to work well – if you’d like to learn more about IFTTT then check out this link.

In addition to taking my iPhone i’m also dusting off my trusty Nikon D5100 to take some “proper” pictures. Because i’m not taking my MacBook Pro I’ll be doing all the processing for the whole trip once I get back.

I’ll uploads the best images to the blog in chronological order over the course of 3 or 4 posts – depending on how many I take.

I’m also going to fully take advantage of the superb breweries and bars in and around Boston. I’ve started brewing my own beers now and i’ll be looking for some inspiration as I develop my own recipes.

I’ve had a number of US IPA’s recently and I love the flavour and the style and i’ll be looking to replicate those in my own beers.

As usual, i’ll be logging my beers using Untappd so please follow me if that’s your thing.
